Which versions of Android OS does HAC build for?
« on: September 26, 2011, 03:12:58 PM »
I haven't tried HAC yet or even installed it but have a few questions before starting.

1 Which versions of Android does HAC support?
2 Does HAC have the minimum Android version setting?
3 Could my app detect which version of Android is running?
4 Would my app crash if it called a function not supported on that  Android device?
5 Does HAC support both Portrait and Landscape modes?
6 Would my app automatically cope with different screen sizes?

I have a few more questions but guess this is enough for now.

1 Which versions of Android does HAC support?
Android 1.6 (aka 4) and above.

2 Does HAC have the minimum Android version setting?

Yes, in a HAC project there is a setting for this, it defaults to 4

3 Could my app detect which version of Android is running?

Yes, there is a function for this - AndroidVersionFN - it returns 4 for 1.6, etc

4 Would my app crash if it called a function not supported on that  Android device?

We have tried to cater for this.  So for example if the camera is missing from the device and thefore its corresponding function does not exist in the Android API then the returned null values are handled without a crash. The technical term is Reflection and we use it to check for functions in the Package Manager - its a standard approach in Java to handle the situation you refer to - but most HAC users don't need to know about it as they just want crashes prevented.

5 Does HAC support both Portrait and Landscape modes?

Yes, in the project settings there are 3 options:- Either, Portrait, Landscape.
This post has some info on this:-

6 Would my app automatically cope with different screen sizes?

Again you have an option in the project settings about this, there are 3 scaling options:- None, To Fit, Stretch. The above link also describes this.

I am sorry but I do not have time to answer questions by PM or email.
If you post your questions in this forum then it might help others.

Thank you for the detailed answers although 4 sounds but good I don't really understand the details.

Guess its time to download HAC and try to have some fun with it :)
