Hello World Will not Work
« on: July 27, 2011, 01:24:13 PM »
I have been trying to get the Hello World program to work with very little success.

I could not find a way to display text on a button also the Android SDK does not open using the menu option.  Plus when the Android SDK is not open when you press the Launch emulator option it gives and error and stops. Below is the PC spec and the contents of the Compile – Building window when the Run Android option is used. The app never runs on the emulator.

Processor : Intel Pentium Dual Core T3400 2.16Ghz
RAM : 3Gb
OS : Windows Vista Home 32Bit Service Pack 2

Java SDK : R6 Update 26
Android SDK : R12 (with all packages downloaded & installed)

HAC Android Paths (All have green ticks)
Android SDK : D:\Android\SDK\
Android ADB : D:\Android\SDK\platform-tools
Android JAR  : D:\Android\SDK\android-9
EXE Name : SDK Manager.exe

Dean

HAC Android Paths (All have green ticks)
Android SDK : D:\Android\SDK\
Android ADB : D:\Android\SDK\platform-tools
Android JAR  : D:\Android\SDK\android-9
EXE Name : SDK Manager.exe

Many thanks for posting here and updating your info on the Android File Paths.

From your description there appears to be a problem with the JAVA path and this would cause the error in the Compile/Build phase = PH_7 is where it uses JAVA to sign the built app - at this place :-

PH_7 Android_SignVerifyAPK .....shell jar verify failed

About your Android paths-
In the 4th path, where you have
EXE Name SDK Manager.exe

it should have something like
C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_23\bin\

If it isn't then you need to find the "bin" directory of your JAVA install as shown above.

I could not find a way to display text on a button also the Android SDK does not open using the menu option.

To add text to a button
1) Select the button
2) Select the Value tab on the Toolbar(Creator Properties)
3) Enter your button text in that field

Once we have solved these possible path problems then we can look at why your Android_SDK is not loading.
I am sorry but I do not have time to answer questions by PM or email.

The 4th path is set to the correct Jdk bin folder.
I was just displaying the name of teh SDK file as it has a space in it and wondering if that may be causing the SDK not opening.

I'm sorry but regarding launching the Android SDK - there is a bug in HAC - its a hangover fron the earlier HAC that assumed the SDK was always in c:\android-sdk-windows.  We'll fix this for the next release of HAC due within days.

I know its not ideal - but for now you could always make a shortcut from SDK Manager.exe and send it to your desktop,

Thanks for clearing up the situation on your Paths and the JAVA signing bug - I'll look into this now.

Phase 7 tries to verify that your app has a valid key and verification is carried out by JAVA's jarsigner which is in the JAVA bin folder.  Phase 6 which signs your app worked so it appears the jarsigner is working.

I've looked inside HAC and cannot see anything wrong but perhaps there is a problem with its batch file that controls jarsigner.

The batch file is called SignVerify.bat and is in the HAC_Data folder, in a path similar to this:-

C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Hac_Data\data\

Note, that the folder AppData is usually hidden.

The SignVerify.bat file should have contents similar to this:-

Code: [Select]
@echo off
cd "C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_24\bin\"
jarsigner -verify  "C:\Users\Malkom\AppData\Roaming\HAC_Data\data\HN_Runtime\dist\HelloWorld.apk"

Perhaps there is a problem in your version of the SignVerify.bat  file.

I have checked the SignVerify.bat and the folders exist.
Quote
@echo off
cd "C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_26\bin\"
jarsigner -verify  "C:\Users\DeaMor\AppData\Roaming\HAC_Data\data\HN_Runtime\dist\Hello World.apk"

I then ran the code manually at the command prompt and got the following
Quote
C:\Users\DeaMor>cd "C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_26\bin\"

C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_26\bin>jarsigner -verify  "C:\Users\DeaMor\AppData\Roaming\HAC_Data\data\HN_Runtime\dist\Hello World.apk"
no manifest.
jar is unsigned. (signatures missing or not parsable)

Thank you for these details.

Perhaps you could change line 3 in that file by adding "-verbose" to try and get some detailed info of whats happening.

Replace:-
Code: [Select]
jarsigner -verify  "C:\Users\DeaMor\AppData\Roaming\HAC_Data\data\HN_Runtime\dist\Hello World.apk"
With:-
Code: [Select]
jarsigner -verbose -verify  "C:\Users\DeaMor\AppData\Roaming\HAC_Data\data\HN_Runtime\dist\Hello World.apk"

I'm just wondering if  the other projects also have problems compilingl.

I created a brand new project with a button that has no script. It Runs fine within HAC. I then started the Android 2.2 AVD, started ADB, then clicked Run Android and got the same error as the Hello Worls project. I also ran the jarsign at the command prompt with the verbose option and got the following
Quote
jarsigner -verbose -verify "C:\Users\DeaMor\AppData\Roaming\HAC_Data\data\HN_Runtime\dist\Test4HAC.apk"

  s = signature was verified
m = entry is listed in manifest
k = at least one certificate was found in keystore
i = at least one certificate was found in identity scope

no manifest.
jar is unsigned. (signatures missing or not parsable)
Hope this helps

I'm sorry that I still haven't solved the problem.

I guess some info you gave me earlier had a wrong character in it"?
The should be a path separator between bin and jarsigner but the text shows a >

I have checked the SignVerify.bat and the folders exist.

I then ran the code manually at the command prompt and got the following
Quote
C:\Users\DeaMor>cd "C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_26\bin\"

C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_26\bin>jarsigner -verify  "C:\Users\DeaMor\AppData\Roaming\HAC_Data\data\HN_Runtime\dist\Hello World.apk"
no manifest.
jar is unsigned. (signatures missing or not parsable)

Here is the output I got when manually running the SignVerify.bat file for the HellwoWorld project:-

Code: [Select]
C:\Users\Malkom\AppData\Roaming\HAC_Data\data>SignVerify.bat

C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_24\bin>

I notice that you are using jdk1.6.0_26 while in the above I used jdk1.6.0_24.
However we are using jdk1.6.0_26 on a Windows 7 64 machine with no problems.

I have done a little digging and it appears jarsign cannot find the manifest file in "C:\Users\DeaMor\AppData\Roaming\HAC_Data\data\HN_Runtime" folder. While the project is located in the D:\Users\DeaMor\Documents\Android\HAC\Hello World.
Every project created has the same result No Manifest. I have been able to get a Hello World to work within Eclipse with no issues.

Hope this info helps you.

Thank you for these details. A  missing Manifest sounds like its missing from the HAC install or has gone missing from the Runtime section.

Perhaps you could try a clean Install of HAC:-
1) Uninstall HAC
2) Delete the HAC_Data folder from AppData

There is a bit here about clean installs:-

I have completed a clean uninstall & re-install with the same error verify failed / No Manifest.
The "AndroidManifest.xml" does exist in C:\Users\DeaMor\AppData\Roaming\HAC_Data\data\HN_Runtime" and refers to the HelloWorld app.

It appears there could be an issue with the data file on a different drive. The Vista library files (document, pictures, etc...) were originally moved (D:\Users\DeaMor\...) when I received the laptop so the data is held on a separate drive in case I have to reinstall the OS. The AppData foler was never moved and still in the original location on the C: drive. Is HAC using a relative path that could cause this.

Thank you for this info - the different drives is why its not working for you  :(

I'm sorry but unfortunately the current HAC setup and its helpers expect everything to be on the root drive and there is no way around this. Once the batch files pass the commands to the helper programs they can get confused with the different drives.

Hopefully there might be someway for you to reinstall your Vista so everything is on the bootup drive then HAC should build with no problems.

Well at least we know why it does not work now.
Being an IT engineer of some 20yrs I will not put my data on the same partition because if the OS screws up I do not loose any data and only need to reinstall the programs. That is good IT practice and a lot of the new laptops are also setup in a similar way.
I would hope that HAC will be patched/coded to work with the data on one drive and the programs on another.
I was hoping for an easier route but will now uninstall HAC and use Eclipse as I have a limited knowledge of VB, C#, Java and find some training materials for it.

Thank you for your help.
